Oil Is Racing Toward $100 — Here’s Why the Whole World Is Watching

🚨 Rising oil prices are putting fresh pressure on markets around the world

Global oil prices have surged toward $100 a barrel as escalating conflict in the Middle East raises fears about disruptions to energy supplies.

Brent crude climbed to around $99.49 a barrel on Wednesday, its highest level since late June, while US crude also rose sharply.

⛽ Why everyone is watching oil

Oil is a major part of the global economy. When crude prices rise significantly, the effects can eventually be felt in petrol prices, transportation, airline costs and the prices of everyday goods.

The latest jump follows further military escalation involving Iran, the US and Iran-backed Houthi forces. Investors are now watching closely to see whether the situation develops into a longer disruption of energy supplies.

📉 Markets react

The uncertainty has also weighed on financial markets. US stocks fell on Tuesday, while several Asian markets opened lower on Wednesday. At the same time, some technology and artificial-intelligence stocks continued to show resilience.

👀 What happens next?

Investors are particularly focused on upcoming US inflation data, which could influence expectations about interest rates.

For consumers, however, the biggest question is simpler:

Will higher oil prices eventually mean higher fuel prices?

If tensions continue and energy supplies become disrupted, the pressure could increase.
