🚨 BREAKING: Houthi Attacks Hit Saudi Energy Facilities as Oil Nears $100

September 8, 2026

Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after Houthi attacks struck energy facilities in southern Saudi Arabia, with authorities reporting that 73 people were injured, including women and children.

According to Reuters, missile and drone strikes hit areas including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, with fires reported at several locations. Some facilities connected to Saudi oil giant Aramco were affected.

🛢️ Oil prices surge

The attacks have sent fresh shockwaves through global energy markets. Brent crude climbed to around $98 a barrel, while U.S. crude rose above $93, as investors worried that continued fighting could disrupt supplies and shipping routes.

The Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea region remain major concerns for global energy markets because disruptions there can affect the movement of oil and other goods around the world.

🌍 Why this matters

A prolonged escalation could mean:

Higher fuel prices More expensive transportation and shipping Increased pressure on food and consumer prices Greater volatility in global stock markets Further disruption to Middle Eastern energy supplies

Global markets were already showing signs of nervousness on Tuesday, with several major stock indexes falling as oil prices climbed.

⚠️ What happens next?

Saudi authorities say they are assessing the damage, while the Saudi-led coalition has vowed to respond to what it described as a dangerous escalation. The attacks come amid a much wider confrontation involving Iran, the United States and regional forces, raising fears that the conflict could spread further.
