Accra, September 9, 2026 — Ghana’s economy expanded by 6.0% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, according to official figures released on Wednesday.

The growth was largely driven by the communications sector, highlighting the increasing importance of telecommunications and digital services to Ghana’s economy.
Although the result represents solid growth, it is slightly lower than the 6.6% recorded during the same quarter a year earlier.

📱 Communications sector leads growth
The strong performance of communications reflects the continued expansion of digital services and connectivity across the country. Ghana’s growing digital economy is becoming increasingly important for businesses and consumers.
🇬🇭 What this could mean for Ghanaians
Economic growth can support job creation, business activity and investment. However, the impact on ordinary households will depend on whether stronger economic activity translates into higher incomes and improved living conditions.

The latest figures are likely to keep Ghana’s economic performance in focus as policymakers work to maintain growth and stability.
